Hamilton Operatic Society has cemented its role as one of the most successful and professional musical theatre groups in New Zealand.
With history dating back over 100 years, we are proud of our roots and traditions but not afraid to push boundaries to make sure we stay relevant and continue to captivate our audiences, both young and old.
Our enduring success is largely due to an unwavering commitment to producing theatre with high production values. This means we don’t cut corners. Ever.
Our audiences know that a night out at a Hamilton Operatic production is a guaranteed feast for the senses which will leave them with a spring in their step.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we are reliant on volunteers and the generosity of the community and local businesses.
From the onstage performers to our creative leaders and technical experts, we are an organisation that values and nurtures our talent and diverse skillsets. We do this in myriad ways, sometimes partnering with local high schools, offering a variety of workshops and regularly producing theatre for youth and led by youth.
Past cast members are now household names and include Dame Malvina Major, the late Rob Guest, Suzanne Lee, Max Cryer and Kimba Johnson (Kimbra). In 2012 the Society was privileged to have international sensation, Richard O’Brien, play the role of Fagin in their acclaimed season of Oliver! at Founders Theatre.
The Society is made up of financial members represented by a Board of Management, which are elected annually at their Annual General Meeting.
