Hamilton
Operatic Society is one of the oldest musical theatre groups in New Zealand,
celebrating its 100th year in 2004.
Every year the Society produces 2-3 productions
at either Founders Memorial Theatre or The Clarence Street Theatre.
Past Productions have included well-known
musicals such as Les Miserables, Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story, Evita and
Chicago, as well as compilation shows and theatre restaurant shows
commissioned for the society.
Past cast members are now household names and
include Dame Malvina Major, Rob Guest, Suzanne Lee and Max Cryer. The
society has also provided an introduction to theatre and training ground for
many people who have now made a career either onstage or behind the scenes.
The Society is made up of members represented by
a Board of Management which is elected annually at the AGM.
